It’s a question I ask every couple who enquires with me.

Not about budgets, timelines, or venues… but this:

“What matters most to you in your wedding photography?”

And honestly, the answers tell me everything I need to know.

It’s Not Really About Photos

Most people don’t remember exactly how many photos they received.

Or how quickly they were delivered.

What they do remember is how the photos make them feel.

Do they take you straight back to the moment?

Do they feel real?

Do they look like you?

That’s what actually matters.

The Most Common Answer I Hear

Time and time again, couples say something along the lines of:

“We want the photos to look natural — not staged or forced.”

And I get it. Completely.

Because no one wants to spend their wedding day feeling like they’re on a photoshoot… being told where to stand, what to do with their hands, or when to smile.

You want to enjoy it. Be present. Be yourselves.

And that’s exactly how I work.

My Approach (And Why It Works)

I keep things simple.

No awkward posing.

No forced moments.

No turning your day into a production.

I’ll guide you when you need it (especially during couple photos — don’t worry, I’ve got you), but for the most part, I’m there to quietly capture what’s already happening.

The laughs you didn’t realise I saw.

The moments you missed.

The in-between bits that end up meaning the most.

Because those are the photos you’ll come back to.

Why This Question Matters

Asking “what matters most” isn’t just a nice touch — it’s important.

Every couple is different.

Every wedding is different.

Some people want lots of group photos.

Some want more candid moments.

Some care about the big moments… others care about everything in between.

There’s no right or wrong answer.

But understanding what you care about means I can photograph your day in a way that actually reflects it.

If You’re Planning Your Wedding…

It’s worth asking yourself this question — even if you’re not booking with me:

What do you want your wedding photos to feel like in 5, 10, 20 years?

Because once the day is over, the photos are what bring it all back.

Final Thought

If your answer is something along the lines of:

“We just want it to feel natural, relaxed, and real…”

Then we’ll probably get along just fine.
